Super Mario Brothers Cake and Cupcakes!

This Super Mario Bros Birthday Cake was delivered to Manhattan along with some other Super Mario Brothers Cakes. You can do this cake design so many different ways! This first cake had hand molded Cake Toppers some have toys can you tell which are which?

This Super Mario Bros. Cake was Delivered to the Bronx, NY and has all hand molding :) Alot of work but so cute!

These two cakes were delivered to Manhattan, no toppers here though. Just a Super Mario Bros Game Scene.

This Super Mario Bros. Birthday Cake was delivered to Manhattan also and has two toy Toppers on the cake. It was a last minute order so hand molding was not an option. This Juicy Couture Jewelry Box Cake was so much fun. For one it was Pink and we all know how I feel about pink. For two it was Juicy Couture. Add Jewelry to the mix and this is a Cake made for a Girly Birthday PArty. The Party Planner contacted Bear Heart Baking Company about making this cake for a Princess Tea Party themed Birthday Party. The Cake was to have matching Cupcakes with the Teacup Charm from a previous years Juicy Couture Collection.

We hand molded 14 of these Juicy Couture Teacup Charms for the Cupcakes. We made a couple extra and even sat one on the cake. Stuck to the Juicy Bracelet.

I Loved making this Princess Tea Party themed Cake. I think it went well with the theme!!!

How to make a Cat in the Hat Dr. Seuss Birthday Cake with Fondant!

We don't usually post a step by step how to instruction post on making cakes but this one was just too fun! We figured we would share how we made it for anyone who was curious about how or even someone adventurous enough to attempt it themselves. The Cat in the Hat and One Fish, Two fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish are right up there with some of my favorite Dr. Seuss Books Ever. Next to Hop on Pop, of course! So you can imagine how extremely excited I was when I got the call for a 1st Birthday Cake with a Dr. Seuss theme!

I am going to break the construction down into steps. Maybe leaving out some things so if there are any questions at all feel free to ask!

Step One:

Dr. Seuss Cake Step By Step instructions *Step 1*I have already attached the Dowel Rod to the board with a screw, placed the 8" square Chocolate double layer cake on the board lowering it down onto the dowel rod first. (Be very careful to center it exact, you won't be able to move it around once it is on the board and through the dowel rod.) The buttercream was then placed around the cake and down the sides to prepare it for the fondant. I rolled out an aqua blue marshmallow fondant that was made in advance. I centered it over the dowel rod, pushed it through the center and lowered it onto the cake.

Step 2:

Dr. Seuss Cake Step By Step Instructions *Step 2*Next I took my Pampered Chef Pizza Cutter ( I love this thing, especially for cutting my fondant) and cut along the edge of the cake to remove the excess fondant. I did this to each side.

Step 3:

Dr. Seuss Cake Step By Step Instructions *Step 3*In this step it is very important to get a nice clean cut that you use sharp scissors and cut very straight. I like to pinch the fondant as close to the cake as I can. Be careful not to pinch too far or icing will get between the layers causing your cut to ooze icing. If this happens take a little water on your finger tip and run it down the cut to smooth the icing away and help seal the fondant.

Finished SideStep 4:

Dr. Seuss Cake Step By Step Instructions *Step 4*For this step I rolled out White Marshmallow Fondant that was made ahead of time. I used an 8" circle board to cut out the white circle which will be the brim of my "Cat in The Hat" Hat! I centered it and slide it down the dowel rod, laying it flat on the cake.

Step 5:

Dr. Seuss Cake Step By Step Instructions *Step 5*This next step is very impotant if skipped, you will crush the cake. You will need to insert 4 dowel rods around the center. This gives the support to the top cake so it doesn't crush your bottom cake. Ooozing Icing everywhere. Place the dowel rods in 4 positions and make sure to cut them all even or one end of your cake will stick up higher than the others making it look like it is leaning.

Step 6:

Dr. Seuss Cake Step By Step Instructions *Step 6*This step was the trickiest and took the most thought and planning for me. I cut the center out of two 6" round boards, just big enough for the dowel rod to fit through. I took one round board and stacked my double layer 6" yellow cakes with the icing already in the middle onto the dowel rod. (this step was only to have the hole there) I then removed the cake and sat it on my turn table. I put a layer of icing down and placed the next board on top.

I stuck the cake back on the dowel rod. I them placed a 7" round cake slightly off centered so more of the cake was sticking off of the edge but flush with the cakes underneath on the opposite side. Iced the middle and stacked another 7" round on top. I removed the 4 stacked yellow cake rounds and placed them on the turntable, (You will then have to carve the cake for it to take the shape of the "Cat in the Hat" Hat) and iced the sides and top in preperation for the fondant!

Step 7:

Dr. Seuss Cake Step By Step Instructions *Step 7*Roll out the white fondant and cover the cake. Put the cake onto the dowel rod so it is sitting on top of the square! Now it is time to decorate! I used Red fondant to accent the hat and an edible black marker to add the detail to the stripes on the hat. I free handed a One Fish on white fondant and then cut it out and stuck it on the side of the bottom tier. Rolled the lettering for "One Fish" because the little boy was turning one. Then cut out "Ben" for the top of the hat. The Cutest First Birthday Cake!

A Cupcake Stop at Magnolia Bakery in NYC! Review

On my Cupcake Mission the third stop for me was in NYC on Black Friday......I know New York..Black Friday...what was I thinking!?!? It actually wasn't that bad. This Bakery on the other hand was BUSY! I can't imagine they aren't everyday though. And Yes, I did say this was my third stop on My Cupcake Mission. I will be blogging about my first two trips to different bakeries but was so excited to get this one in that well....I skipped the first two!

First of all the window decor is just the cutest thing ever. My 3 year old who loves any and everything to do with tu-tus and purple was loving this display. You can imagine her excitement when actually walking into the bakery and finding that there were Cupcakes inside! This Bakery is so cute, friendly staff, and the layout was nicely planned.

I wish I would have had a chance to take any pictures of the inside but since it was Black Friday, well enough said. What I can tell you about the inside is that it isn't very big which is the story of most restaraunts and bakeries in Manhattan. When you walk in the door to your left will be different sections for ordering. They have cakes, pies, cookies, Ice Box Cakes, and of course Cupcakes! The Carrot Cake Cupcake was to die for!! The Red Velvet was the best beside Crumbs Bakery located just down the street. Anyone who knows me, knows that I am on this secret mission to try all the Red Velvet Cupcakes from every Bakery in the United States. I know what ambitious goals I have :) All joking aside I will definitely be back to get more cupcakes and try other things as well. I think my dad had a slice of pumpkin pie there which he thought was very good. Oooooh....Speaking of Pumpkin....their Pumpkin Cupcakes with Cream Cheese......AMAZING!!!

Out of the six I tried there wasn't one I didn't like. I forgot to mention the Red Velvet. I need to personally address this Cupcake, after all I am on a secret mission. The Red Velvet as stated above was moist however I love my Red Velvet Cupcakes with Cream Cheese. At Magnolia Bakery they make there's with Buttercream. Some people like Buttercream with there Red Velvet and if you are one of those people you have to try Magnolia Bakery in NYC, the Buttercream was melt in your mouth, so good it could have been Italian Buttercream, Buttercream Icing!

My overall Rating for Magnolia Bakery NYC would be an A++

300 Custom Decorated Sugar Cookies Shipped to Great Barrington, MA

We made these sugar cookies awhile ago. They were for a catering company in Massachusetts. They need the star cookies to be decorated for a huge event where they would be given away to all the guests. I did hear back about them and they were the biggest hit at the party apparently. Everyone was asking about the cookies! They wanted to know if they were shortbread?, what flavoring was that?, how could they get some more?, etc….. Needless to say we couldn’t have been more satisfied! Not only did 300 custom cookies take a while to bake, the decorating was a task all in itself, I had five people, and at one point, six, people helping out well into the night Can’t wait to do it again!

The 300 star cookies were not the only order for the weekend. We also had 180 dog bone cookies for Wedding Favors for that Saturday. The Dog Bones were a nice favor from the wedding couple to all of their guests who were making donations to the local York County S.P.C.A. instead of giving the couple gifts. talk about a great cause! The Dog Bones were decorated in Orange and Coral to match the Wedding Colors. Sooo Cute!

We did receive another order the next week from the MA Catering Company for 150 Decorated Brownies. The brownies were for a Golf Outing and would be placed ont he tables. This took a minute for me to figure out just what they would look like. I had no clue for a good 15 minutes, LOL!! It didn’t take me long to figure it out. I would make the brownies into circles and then lay marshmallow Fondant on top to look like the actual golf ball. Next I placed Green Royal icing at the bottom to look like Grass. I think they turned out well, if I only could have gotten a better picture.

Where do you put 150 Decorated Brownies. Thank Goodness for Stackable Cooling Racks, if you don’t own any I suggest you invest.

Birthday Cake for Super Mario Bros. Birthday party!

Bear Heart Baking Company made this Birthday Cake and Cupcakes for a Super Mario Bros themed Birthday Party this Monday! The Super Mario Bros. Birthday Party was at Daddy O’s Pizza in York, PA! The Birthday Cake was Super Mario Bros! We did the scene from the game going around both tiers of the cake. The Mario and Luigi were toys used for decorations. The Super Mario Bros Cupcakes were done with the Stars from the Nintendo game matching the Super Mario Bros Star topper! The Hand Molded Mario head on the one cupcake was a huge hit! The little mushrooms accented two cupcakes and also one of the tiers. We added the Super Mario Bros coins, tubes, man eating flowers, bricks, and clouds. This cake was alot of fun to make. We loved creating an all time favorite Super Mario Bros Nintendo Game.

The Super Mario cupcakes toppers were hand molded out of Marshmallow Fondant. The stars were also made of Marshmallow fondant and then little eyes were added with an edible black icing writer. The Blue background of the cupcakes goes great with the yellow and reds color scheme for this Super Mario Birthday Party! York, PA Bakery Pink Princess Pillow Cake with Edible Tiara!

A Two Tier Princess Pillow Cake with a Gumpaste Tiara on Top and lots of beautiful flowers all over the cake. The colors were different shades of Pink and Green. Our Favorite Princess Cake by Far. We made the bottom Princess Pillow Cake out of a square Red Velvet Cake and carved into it to make it look more like a real pillow. We then iced and covered it with Marshmallow Fondant, decorating it with and Argyle Pattern and Silver Dragees. The top Pillow was a Black and White Cake the top layer Vanilla and the bottom Chocolate. It was also iced and covered in Marshmallow Fondant. Deocorated with a simpler band going around the cake. The Marshmallow Fondant Flowers were hand rolled and placed all over the cake for the extra girly touch. We had a lot of fun making this cake and were so excited to be challenged with something that ended up looking so beautiful. Birthday Cake Delivery to York College of Pennsylvania

We recently made a Birthday Cake for a student attending York College of Pennsylvania! Her mother called our bakery and wanted to do something for her daughter who was away at York College. Since she wasn’t close enough to bake a cake for her she trusted our bakery to make a custom birthday cake for her daughter. She requested Hot Pink Fondant on the Birthday Cake. Also that a Boston Terrier, since they owned a Boston Terrier, be put on the Birthday Cake. She needed it delivered to York College of Pennsylvania on March 12 at 1:00 p.m.

We are so happy that Connie found us on the web and that we were able to share in her daughter’s Birthday Cake Surprise! We were even more thrilled when we sent her an e-mail asking about her experience and she sent us this wonderful comment!

Welcome to the Nest Baby Shower Cake

This Welcome to the Nest Baby Shower Cake was so much fun to make! The nest with the Robin Eggs which are (Mini Easter Whoppers) was made out of modeling chocolate, a first for us at Bear Heart Baking Company! The tree branch was also made out of modeling chocolate as well. The flowers were marshmallow fondant painted pink at the tips for the baby girl! The cake itself was an almond flavored white cake with a black raspberry filling and cream cheese icing with a hint of almond flavoring. We wrote “Welcome to the Nest” on the cake in pink of course!

Birds nest Toasted Coconut Carrot Cake Cupcakes!

The cupcakes…..Oh the Cupcakes!! The Cupcakes were our amazingly moist carrot cake with chunks of glazed pecans and plump moist raisins mixed throughout. We added a cream cheese icing that is to die for and sprinkled toasted coconut over the tops of the cake! In house toasted coconut which was another first for Bear Heart Baking Company. The little birds were made using our marshmallow fondant, pink because It’s a Girl, and then little yellow icing beaks were added and little eyes dotted on with black edible marker. Topsy Turvy Birthday Cake! This was our first time making a Topsy Turvy Cake! The color scheme was purple, pink, and orange for the little girls Birthday Cake. We added daisy detailing and stripes and polka dots. The cake flavors were Chocolate Cake on the bottom tier and white cake on the top tier. Both tiers had Vanilla Icing and Marshmallow Fondant covering. The decorations were also made of Marshmallow Fondant. We had a lot of fun making this cake. It was our first time making the Topsy Turvy and we think it turned out great!

Birthday Cake with Made from scratch Italian Buttercream Gettysburg, PA Delivery!

As always we had a ton of fun making this green and pink polka dot cake! It was for a 9th Birthday Party at a local hotel in Gettysburg, PA. We delivered the Birthday Cake to the hotel in Gettysburg, PA this past Saturday. The green and pink twist around the bottom and top tiers of the cake was something new. We haven't done this on any cakes we have made yet and think it turned out to be really cute! With all the polka dot on the Birthday Cake I didn't think our normal look of small and big multicolored balls going around was going to do the trick!

The final cake looked a little different we added some balls sticking out of the Birthday Cake with thin wores. Giving it a truly 3 dimensional look! The cake itself was a white cake with Italian Buttercream Icing! Our first attempt at making Italian Buttercream from scratch and it was well worth it. Alot of work but so worth it. Italian Buttercream for those of you who aren't familiar with it, is a basic bend of melted sugar and water whipped into egg whites that have been whipped prior to melting the sugar. Then you combine the two mixtures and whip for about 15 minutes! My arm was so tired! Add the butter next and after that you add the flavoring (which we used vanilla) and voila! you have Italian Buttercream, so silky smooth it literally melts in your mouth!

Ready for delivery! The cake turned out beautifully and made it the whole way to Gettysburg, PA without any problems! Whew...that is always a happy ending :)

Fondant Puppy Dog Birthday Cake!

This Birthday Cake was made for a little boys fifth birthday. His mother sent me pictures of his favorite stuffed dog "Little Dog". The puppy was so cute and was pretty easy to make. I think he turned out really well with the Marshmallow Fondant. The color scheme was Thomas the Tank Engine Blue and Orange. I think the colors of this Birthday Cake are my favorite. Not only because I am a Miami Dolphins Fan but also because of how trendy they make the cake look! We added a doghouse to the front with the name "Little Dog" hanging over the doorway. The Birthday Cake was completely covered in Marshmallow Fondant and the decorations added were also Marshmallow Fondant. You can't have a puppy dog cake without bones so we lined the whole bottom tier with white bones and added his name "Cole" as well. Another fun Birthday Cake made by Bear Heart Baking Company!

Mickey And Minnie Mouse themed Birthday Cake for Twins!

This was definitely a fun cake! Who doesn't love Mickey and Minnie Mouse? The three tier cake was a bottom mickey inspired tier and the middle tier was inspired by Minnie's Skirt. The ruffling detail of the Minnie's Skirt tier turned out perfectly and was done with Marshmallow Fondant. The entire Birthday Cake is covered in Marshmallow Fondant as well. For the Top tier of the Birthday Cake I made Mickey and Minnie faces out of Marshmallow Fondant. Adding the little bow detail for Minnie!

To finish off the top of the tiered Mickey and Minnie Birthday Cake I added a spiral candle with polka dots. The Twins were turning one so one is all that was needed. We did the smash cake a little different. We made individual Cake Slices for each twin. One Pink and Minnie Mouse theme for the one year old baby girls Birthday Cake. One Red and Mickey Mouse theme for the one year old little boys birthday cake!

The other side of the slice was decorated to look like it was cut into and triple layers were showing on the cake. The spiral candles go along perfectly with the theme and were made entirely out of Marshmallow Fondant as well.

The cakes looked absolutely fabulous! We had so much fun making them and look forward to making many more Mickey and Minnie Mouse themed Birthday Cakes!

Brazilian Themed Waterfall Birthday Cake!

I was asked to make a Brazilian Themed Waterfall Cake for a Birthday get together with some old friends by Kristin in East Berlin, PA. She wanted something to go along with the memories of there trip to Brazil where they all met for the first time. Everything design wise was left up to me and she was very happy with the results. The little Toucan at the top of the cake was my favorite! He was added last and sort of blends in with the rocks unless you are looking at it just right! The waterfall is definitely the highlight of the cake. It took 4 cakes to get the height for this Waterfall Cake. The fondant flowers go all the way around the Waterfall. The rocks and boulders were so fun to make out of fondant as well.

The top of the cake looking down definitely shows another side to the waterfall. The peaceful calm waters at the top flowing over the side just before crashing into the rocks along the way and at the bottom.

Beaker from the Muppets Birthday Cake!

We made a Beaker from the Muppets Cake for this past Sunday the 27th of December. I think it turned out really cute. We hand molded Beaker from Marshmallow Fondant. His hair we used a reddish orange icing for. The cake was a marble cake with chocolate icing and Marshmallow Fondant on top. It looked Yummy and smelled sooo good! I just love the way Beaker turned out. Sooo proud of him! It only took us until 4:30 in the morning to finish. We had a three tier Winnie th ePooh cake to make for Sunday as well. Not to mention the Christmas Party at my house that didn't end until 7:30. Oh the joys of running a home bakery :)

3 Tier Winnie The Pooh Birthday Cake!

So this weekend we had the chance to make a three tier Winnie the Pooh Cake. It was for a little boys 2nd Birthday Party. The color scheme was yellow, blue, and green. The top tier was a "hunny" pot. The middle tier she wanted a banner being held up by bees. Also the writing "Happy 2nd Birthday Super Sleuth Jayden"

The bottom tier was an argyle pattern going the whole way around and since we were going with the Super Sleuth theme. What would be more appropriate than the Upside down triangle with the question mark inside! I think the cake turned out great and almost everyone loves Pooh so I have a feeling this will be just the beginning of our Pooh cake making journey. :)

The comment she left was so wonderful. It really makes you feel like you are doing a great job when you actually hear back about a cake. The times that you don't only leave you questioning everything?? I do love making cakes and I think this one is right at the top of my favorites!

These were the pictures of the cake I took before they got here. As you can see Pooh and Tigger weren't on the top of the Birthday cake in her picture. They just wouldn't stay up there :) I think they look much better at the bottom of the cake. The candle looked so cute on the top as well!

Delivered Cookies, Brownies, and Zucchini Bread to East York!

Had a big delivery on Wednesday night. I had to deliver 4 mini loaves of Zucchini bread, 1 dozen chocolate Chip Cookies, and 8 Fudgy Brownies with Red and Green Chocolate drizzle, to East York. I wish I could say this was a quick and easy order but it took alot of time to individually wrap and seal each cookie, brownie, and quick bread. I am thinking I will have to work on the packaging process in the future to make it more efficient. I never even made it to drop off the package until a little after 7. It was to a home in East York out by the York Galleria Mall. Being in Dover it took some time to get out there with all of the Christmas traffic.

Well another hectic day in the life of a Baker :) Really though it isn't that bad. I bake cookies, brownies, breads, and cakes for living. I can think of a few more painful things in life. Can you? LOL!!

Hannah Montana Guitar Cakes I can make!

I have made two guitar cakes in the past 4 months. It seems to be every little Hannah Montana Birthday Girls Dream. So here I am the Cake Fairy making all there guitar cake wishes come true ;) I mean if the Princess wants a Hannah Montana Guitar Cake, then the Princess needs a Hannah Montana Guitar Cake!

Ok so this next one isn't a guitar cake and it doesn't have any true signs of being a Hannah Montana Cake except for the colors, I know. However it was my first Birthday Cake made back in September for my cousins daughter's birthday and the Birthday Party was a Hannah Montana Theme. So I am including it here.

Joe Live Show Celebrates 20th Anniversary! I make the Cake!

I just made a cake for the Joe Live Show in York, PA! It was alot of fun. If you watch the show Joe sits in front of an American Flag most of the time. Which is why the American Flag theme was requested.

Since it was there 20th Anniversary I made a big "2-0" to go on top. Made some red stripes to represent those found on a flag. I used marshmallow fondant for all the decorations and to completely cover everything but the sheet cake. This cake was to feed 200 people!! This was my biggest order so far. I think it turned out great! Congratulations "Joe Live" on your 20th Anniversary!

Red Velvet Cake...Yummy!

I just love everything about Red Velvet cake. Especially around this time of year. The color Red just feels like Christmas! The Cream Cheese Icing is by far my favorite icing ever. So it makes perfect sense to pair it with my favorite Cake.....right!?!

This slice inpaticular was made for a client who setup an appointment for a Wedding Cake Taste Testing. There were a total of 3 clients for the day. One client called the night before at 12:30 to reschedule. They just happened to be the couple who requested the Red Velvet Cake. The other two cakes made for the day were a Chocolate Cake with Peanut Butter Icing. The second Cake was a White Almond Cake with Lemon Filling and Buttercream icing! My mouth is watering just thinking about them!

Back to the Red Velvet, there is a point to my rambling, the two clients I had that day that did not request Red Velvet Cake actually went with the Red Velvet! It's just that good!!

Owning a Bakery in York, PA takes Super Powers!

Owning a baking company can be challenging at times. When you have a husband and three kids who need your time and attention focusing on anything else is pretty diffucult. Somehow I manage to step into my magic phone booth and come out Superwoman. Or at least I wish it was that easy.

Luckily for me I have a huge passion for anything artistic and creative which is my secret super power. I really don't think I could run this Bakery without them. Oh yeah and being able to actually Bake and be good at it really helps as well. There is a trade off however. After all no Super hero has it all. (i have a tiny little secret that pertains to cooking) Can't do it, maybe some day, but for now I will Bake :)

Owning a Bakery in York, PA isn't really the hard part. There are lots of people in York, and one thing that comes with everyone, no matter who you are, is a Birthday! Luckily for me that is what I do I make Cake. Cake for Weddings, Cake for Birthdays, Cake for any reason really. So I am extremely fortunate to live in a town where there are people. Because with people come Birthdays.... I know I said it already. Just wanted to point it out again. The magic thing about people with birthdays is tey usually grow up to have weddings, babies, and eventually you have a snowball effect. If my cakes are good. I now have a business setup for lot's of success in the future!

To sum it all up I am very Thankful for what I do and for being good at what I do. Most importantly I am Thankful to everyone who believes in me and Bear Heart Baking Company!
